Early on Saturday, February 22, 2020, six of us from Fellowship Church of the Brethren met in Martinsburg to travel to Mt Holly Springs, PA to attend a Multiplication Evangelism Summit and Workshops at Mt Holly Springs Church of God. The keynote speaker for two sessions was Pastor Dan Brindley of Crosspoint Church in Farmingdale, NJ. There were a dozen workshops offered in breakout sessions before and after lunch. It was impossible for any of us to attend all the workshops, so we split up, each attending the workshops that seemed most interesting personally. Topics included, Micro Churches, 2 sessions on Using the Discovery Bible Study Method, The Missions Experience, Understanding Your Pastor, Understanding Your Church, Prison Ministry, Truly Loving People, APEST and Leadership Development, Christ’s Model for Ministry, Younique: Finding Your Personal Calling, No Excuses: An Easy Discipleship Tool Anyone Can Use, and Evangelism: ERC Style. I could tell by conversions in the car on the way back that folks had found some of the sessions interesting and thought provoking. Donna led with a report of the experience Sunday and others of the group shared as well. There was talk of the group getting together to talk about acting on things we learned. The current COVID-19 concerns have prevented that from happening.
I was not at Fellowship Church of the Brethren on Sunday, February 23rd to hear the reports from our travel group. Yvonne and I were specially invited guests for the final Sunday morning church service at Hollidaysburg First Church of God in Hollidaysburg, PA. The church officially closed its doors on that date after more than a hundred years in the community. I served as part-time pastor at the Hollidaysburg church for eight years before resigning to move to Virginia. I was honored to be one of the guest speakers for this occasion, Yvonne provided special music, and we were all treated to dinner at Hoss's Steak and Sea House in Hollidaysburg after the service.
